Eric had a chance to talk to both the incoming and the outgoing chairmen of the Truckload Carriers Association. From electronic logs to in upcoming hours of service legislation, there are a lot of issues that are going to have some big impacts on the transportation industry in the next few months. Then Eric has the change to talk to Gary Salisbury of Fikes Truck Line about the new TCA's Open Deck Division, which specializes in flatbed trucking issues.

Back in March, the US Legislator passed a bill that took Mexican trucks off US roads, despite the fact that it goes against NAFTA. In response Mexico passed large tariffs on US-made goods. Gary talks about what's being done to get Mexican trucks back on the road, and to get the Mexican government to cut the restrictive tariffs. Then he gives a round-up of a few studies about everything from texting to the economy.

If the current legislation becomes law, it would require a rule that would mandate that all trucks have on-board recorder within four years. Eric and Gary discuss what the new law would mean for the trucking industry, and what can be done to keep the bill from making it into law. The ATA is pushing for governors to be put on all trucks made after 1992 that would keep them below 65 mph. While the ATA claims that truck speed is the primary cause of trucking fatalities, Eric and Gary talk about what should be actually done to fix the situation.
